The Criminal Justice Coordinating Council (CJCC) pilot project is nearing the completion of qualitative and biological data collection. Individuals detained in the Coconino County Jail have participated in interviews and biological swab samples that are being tested for staph and cavity-causing bacteria. CHER has been awarded funding for several projects from the Native American Research Centers for Health (NARCH), a program supported by the National Institute of General Medical Sciences and Indian Health Service. “The NARCH initiative supports partnerships between American Indian/Alaska Native (AI/AN) tribes or tribally-based organizations and institutions that conduct intensive academic-level biomedical research.
