The National Institute on Minority Health and Health Disparities has awarded NAU and the Center for Health Equity Research $21.4 million over the next five years to establish the Southwest Health Equity Research Collaborative (SHERC). SHERC will work to increase NAU’s basic biomedical, clinical, and behavioral health research capacity to address health disparities among diverse populations of the Southwest region. Starting in October, 2017, SHERC will begin a program of research infrastructure enhancements at NAU; will hire and mentor a cohort of postdoctoral scholars each year; will offer funding to NAU health equity researchers for pilot projects; will recruit and hire new research-intensive faculty in health equity research areas; and will continue to strengthen a program of community engagement.
