Research Focus Social and environmental determinants of health, health disparities
George’s research is broadly focused on group differences in health services utilization. Most recently, he has focused on racial/ethnic and gender disparities in the use of substance abuse services among criminal justice-involved individuals. Other current projects include using large, nationally representative datasets to better understand the effects of homelessness and violence on multiple health outcomes. The majority of George’s research is local to Arizona and the United States, but his focus on health equity was shaped during his years as a Peace Corps Volunteer in Malawi, then later as a researcher with the Clinton Foundation evaluating retention in HIV services, also in Malawi.
